The challenge:
BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) CCG is encouraging nursing and care homes to implement SystmOne, to facilitate shared patient care and safety with local GP practices. 30 care homes in the Swindon and Wiltshire area were identified in the initial deployment tranche. BSW approached the team with a request to create and deliver a bespoke training package for senior management, key nursing and care home staff, in the safe use of SystmOne for their go-live day. This work is ongoing.
What we are delivering
For each care home, and in partnership with the project team, we liaise with the care home manager to arrange a suitable go-live training date, once the SystmOne care home module has been implemented. In order to deliver this training several members of the team received train the trainer training, specifically focused on the SystmOne care home module, to ensure we can fully support users with this functionality.
We assist with configuring the care home unit modules, toolbars, clinical tree and icons to an agreed specification. Training is delivered online via MS Teams or face to face (Covid19 social distancing guidelines permitting). Care home staff are issued with their login details, by the trainer, on go-live day.
The bespoke training package includes:
- Promote the benefits of sharing patient records with GP practices
- Explain TPP sharing principles and how to amend consent preferences
- Overview of key clinical areas of the patient record such as pathology results, letters, medication and consultations
- Communicating with the GP practices by sending and receiving tasks
- Completion of the Ardens care home data entry template
The outcome
This project is ongoing – so far 18 care homes in BSW have successfully implemented the SystmOne care home module, with support from the SCW IT Training Team. The training has been well received by care home staff and the benefits of having access to the shared patient record have been recognised.
